I was just reading about decapitation in wikipedia. Apparently, three Christian girls were beheaded by Indonesian extremists in October 2005. Is cultural relativism fair? Does Islam really have the power to turn normally peaceful (genetically) southeast Asians into barbarians?

It seems like Southeast Asians have been historically prone to guerrilla warfare. So, if you view this kind of behavior in that context, it might not be so unusual.
There is guerilla warfare, and there's barbarity. Any nation will engage in guerilla warfare when faced with an enemy that has a stronger army and can't be confronted head on.
But, if you're, genetically, a relatively peaceful race, then the only thing that will make you behead girls is a screwed up religion. It's really that simple.
