How does free speech die?

"There's also another kind of violence though that we're gonna have to think about. It's not necessarily physical violence but that the violence that we perpetrate on each other in other ways. Last week, the big news, obviously, had to do with Imus and the verbal violence that was directed at young women who were role models for all of us, role models for my daughter. ...[T]hat's a form of violence - it may be quiet, it may not surface to the same level of the tragedy we read about today and we mourn, but it is violence nonethesame."

Obama's latest messianic rantings on the Virginia Tech massacre, just disgusting.

Anyway, whenever there is hate speech, and someone is offended, that group is much more motivated to oppose the speech than anyone else, who will be accused of bigotry if they support blanket free speech. So, this happens for every ethnics group, and no one fights back, and viola, no more free speech.

It's similar to the political conflict in free trade. The overall consumer benefits from free trade, but the organized producer has the political motivation to go for protectionism. Happens over and over again, and voila, lots of protections. Luckily, there are other producers that need free trade to sell their products overseas, so they can fight back.

But, with free speech, Don Imus is most likely going to grovel to Al Sharpton rather than fight back. Imagine what things would be like if Don Imus decided he would take a hit? Knowing he would be fired anyway, why didn't he just go all out and say he was right to say what he did and that free speech must include the right to offend or its useless?

Gotta wonder.

Where's Al Sharpton and the media when it comes to this? (www.angryasianman.com):

OCA CONDEMNS POWER 105.1FM RADIO SEGMENT AS RACIST

April 14, 2007 - Today, the four New York City metropolitan area Organization of Chinese American Chapters - New York, New Jersey, Long Island and Westchester รข€“ condemned the recent segment aired on radio station 105.1FM, "Are You Smarter Than An Asian" as racist and is asking executives at 105.1FM for an on-air apology and a meeting with Asian American community leaders.

Close to 9am on Wednesday, April 11, the Ed Lover Show with Egypt and Ashy aired "Are You Smarter Than An Asian" where an "Asian" male named Mr. Hung Lo spoke with a stereotypical Chinese accent broken English, and Kung Fu fighting music in the background. A call-in listener then competed with "Mr. Lo" to answer extremely insulting questions, such as "How does an Asian pronounce 'fried rice?'"

Like I said in my previous post, Asians are the marginalized model minority that doesn't fight back. If we outlawed that radio segment, then we'd be going too far. It's funny and entertaining. So, we should just let all speech on the air. Simple.

What did he say? Some more mindless feelgood rhetoric?

If you force integration, you'll NEED resrictions on speech.

Its like Hayek said, libertarianism interferes with socialism and socialism interferes with libertarianism.

Theres no "compromise" point.

Is it really that dire? Do we really have to sacrifice our freedom to preserve a peaceful diversity?

Sure, socialism and libertarianism can't co-exist. But, what about libertarianism, but with curbs on hypnotic advertising and reckless reproduction?

Jefferson believed the same thing, that though blacks should be free, they won't be able to co-exist with whites. What if America just took the best? What if the Singularity makes this irrelevant?
